A tuition-free seminar focused on mine blasting safety will take place Feb. 22-23 at the National Mine Health & Safety Academy in Beaver, West Virginia.
According to the Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA), the two-day seminar is for mining company managers, blasting engineers, blasters and others involved with the planning, design and use of explosives in mines. Space for the conference is limited.
MSHA says innovation in drilling and blasting design technology will be addressed along with specific blasting applications, up-to-date blasting regulations and blasting-related information from industry experts. The seminar’s presenters are explosives and accessories manufacturers, blasting consultants, design experts and government agency representatives.
Among the topics to be covered are blast design technology; drilling design; electronic initiation systems; flyrock; safety in storage, transportation and explosives use; and vibration control.
According to MSHA, Alabama, Colorado, Kentucky, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Wyoming will accept the seminar as part of their blasting recertification continuing education hours requirement. Virginia will accept the seminar for recertification of construction blasters only.
