Continental launched the X-Life XCP5 as a flexible, braided hose for high-pressure hydraulic applications requiring extra abrasion resistance.

The hose is part of a Continental initiative to offer a premium braided hose portfolio that is ISO 18752-compliant. The company says the X-Life XCP5 is best for applications that require tight bends and flexibility, including ones in mining and construction.

The X-Life XCP5 works in temperatures ranging from minus 40 to 212 degrees, Continental adds.

“Continental has been in the hydraulic hose business for over half a century, and we are committed to leveraging our expertise in this area to deliver an extended portfolio of hoses for a more diverse range of industries,” says Laszlo Dobo, head of product management for hydraulic solutions at Continental. “The XCP5 is an addition to our family of constant-pressure braided hoses. It has excellent impulse performance and flexibility, and the X-Life abrasion cover provides extra abrasion resistance, increased hose assembly life and reduced machine maintenance cost.”

Continental says fittings can be ordered with an optional ArmorPlate coating shield, which provides protection from harsh elements.

Additionally, the company says its B2 fittings are constructed from a single piece of steel without brazed or welded joints to provide better protection against leaks and potential leak paths. Interlocking bite-to-wire technology delivers maximum coupling retention for safer assembly and reliability, Continental says.

The X-Life XCP5 is currently available in three sizes: 1/2 in., 3/8 in. and 3/4 in. It can be crimped with Continental’s one-piece B2 type fittings.

Earlier this year, Continental detailed plans to construct a $90 million manufacturing plant in Mexico focused on the production of hydraulic hoses. Continental says the plant will allow for doubling its hydraulic hose manufacturing capacity. The plant is designed to help meet demand from current and new customers across North America and South America.
