A bipartisan group of U.S. House members established an educational forum that will explore challenges and policies affecting aggregate producers.
The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) says Rep. Nick Langworthy (R-New York) and Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-California) drove the creation of the new Congressional Aggregates Caucus.
“The creation of the Aggregates Caucus is a historical event for our industry, and we are grateful for the leadership of Rep. Nick Langworthy and Rep. Salud Carbajal, who will be the co-chairs,” says Michael Johnson, president and CEO of NSSGA, in a written statement. “The aggregates industry provides the essential materials to build our nation’s infrastructure and connect our communities. With Congress set to consider critical legislation for our industry, from tax reform to surface transportation reauthorization, the formation of this caucus comes at an opportune time.”
Langworthy will receive NSSGA’s 2024 Rock Star Award at the Sept. 24-27 Legislative & Policy Forum (LPF) in Washington.
“[Langworthy] is a freshman, but he has been very helpful to the industry in the short time he has been in Congress,” says Michele Stanley, who recently visited with P&Q to discuss the upcoming LPF.
