The project is Mission Rock, a 28-acre, multiphase, mixed-use development. Tishman Speyer, the San Francisco Giants and the Port of San Francisco partnered to develop the site.
According to Cemex, Mission Rock’s general contractor, Webcor, broke ground on the site in 2020. In doing so, Webcor recruited Cemex to provide Vertua lower-carbon concrete to establish the foundation for the neighborhood’s first three buildings.
The buildings include two residential ones dubbed The Canyon and Verde, plus an office building that houses a new Visa market support center. Mission Rock’s first phase is scheduled for completion later this year.
“We are excited to contribute to a forward-thinking project such as Mission Rock by delivering our eco-conscious building materials, advancing sustainability efforts in San Francisco,” says Francisco Rivera, president of the West Region at Cemex U.S. “In providing Vertua to urban development projects, Cemex is driving innovation further to sustainably solve the world’s construction challenges.”
As Cemex describes, the Mission Rock project marks a significant milestone for the company and the city of San Francisco, as Cemex continues to integrate its Vertua concrete solutions around the U.S. San Francisco, for example, has a goal of becoming a carbon-neutral city, Cemex says.
According to Cemex, Vertua is its portfolio of products and solutions that contributes to building a better future through five sustainable attributes: lower carbon, energy efficiency, recycled materials, water conservation and design optimization.
Vertua is part of Cemex’s “Future in Action” program focused on achieving sustainable excellence through climate action, circularity and natural resource management. Cemex has a goal of becoming a net-zero CO2 company by 2050.
