Caterpillar unveiled Cat AI Assistant, an AI-based solution allowing Cat customers to buy, maintain, manage and operate their equipment from anywhere.

Cat AI Assistant unifies Caterpillar’s digital applications and operator data into one experience. It utilizes Caterpillar’s knowledge base and provides personalized data and insights, enabling faster, smarter decisions, according to Caterpillar.

“Caterpillar’s strong digital foundation, including our Helios data platform that manages over 16 petabytes of data, is helping us move fast and deploy new AI capabilities to help our customers succeed,” says Ogi Redzic, chief digital officer at Caterpillar. “Cat AI Assistant is a major leap forward in how Caterpillar supports customer success through best-in-class digital solutions, whether they’re working from corporate headquarters or at a remote jobsite.”

For business owners, the company says Cat AI Assistant evolves alongside their operations, refining insights and recommendations to help turn unplanned incidents into planned maintenance.

For technicians, Cat AI Assistant can quickly access the right section from a library of thousands of instruction manuals. It offers guidance on repairs, highlights common issues and suggests additional parts needed to complete a job.

For operators, Cat AI Assistant provides operators with information in the cab to work smarter and safer without switching screens, returning to the yard or losing focus. Cat AI Assistant utilizes the Nvidia Jetson Thor platform to run speech recognition and advanced AI models. Caterpillar says the platform can also assist with machine guidance.

With industries facing talent and skills gaps and customers managing increasing jobsite complexity, Caterpillar says its new AI-based solution can help less experienced operators improve productivity and help Cat dealers provide better, more tailored insights to customers.

Caterpillar plans to bring the off-board Cat AI Assistant live in the first quarter of this year. It is in the final stages of validation for in-cab applications, which will help machine operators work more safely and efficiently.
