Caterpillar released its 988 GC wheel loader that the company says delivers reliable and efficient operation, allowing customers to move more material at a lower cost per hour for a faster return on investment.
The 988 GC is optimized as a 50-ton truck match loader. Its 12.8 ft. dump clearance delivers efficient loading up to the Cat 775G truck, the company says. With bucket payload matched to the 988K, the new 988 GC offers up to 740 tph productivity in shot rock truck loading applications and up to 581 tph for load-and-carry operations.
Cat’s new wheel loader is equipped with a Cat C15 engine, which the company says meets Tier 3 or Tier 4 Final emissions standards.
Designed specifically for quarry and mining applications, Cat says its Advanced Power Electronic Control Strategy transmission offers best-in-class performance with consistent and smooth shifting, productivity and efficiency improvements, and long life. Forward momentum and torque are maintained when shifting for greater momentum on grades. The transmission neutralizer pedal extends service brake life and allows full power during stationary loading, according to the company.
Cat’s Product Link offers wireless access to operating data for insight into how the machine is operating. Additionally, rear Cat vision enhances visibility behind the 988 GC. The loader can also be equipped with Cat Detect technology that enhances awareness of the environment around working equipment, Cat says.
The Z-bar front lift arm design provides visibility to the bucket edges and work area to simplify operation. Bucket payload is aligned with the 988K models, with available bucket capacities ranging from 8.3 to 10 cu. yd.
Optional Cat Payload provides on-the-go weighing for materials hauled and loaded, the company adds. An optional advanced productivity subscription provides actionable information to help manage and improve operational productivity and profitability.
The loader also includes on-board diagnostics that alert the operator of machine issues so problems can be resolved before failure.
