The California Construction & Industrial Materials Association (CalCIMA) recently published the report Achieving Net Zero Concrete in California: Pathways, Opportunities and Barriers.

CalCIMA says the report is intended to help inform policymakers and the public about the opportunities for California concrete producers to achieve net zero carbon concrete. It assesses what opportunities are most achievable, which ones have the most impact and the time frame for achieving them.

The report also provides a primer on concrete, California’s concrete industry and the role of concrete producers among architects, engineers, construction firms and developers in the construction value chain.

“California’s construction materials producers have a terrific story of innovation as we march toward net zero concrete,” says Robert Dugan, president & CEO of CalCIMA. “Tremendous strides have been made in reducing the carbon impact of both concrete and asphalt. This report sets forth the context and path for concrete to move forward toward net zero, achieving a reliable supply with an eye to sustainability.”

According to CalCIMA’s website, the California concrete industry is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions footprint and reaching net carbon neutrality by 2045.
