Vulcan quarries receive safety awards from NCDOL
The North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOL) honored Vulcan Materials Co. with safety awards at the company’s safety conference in Winston-Salem, N.C. North Carolina Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry presented 19 awards to Vulcan for both large and small quarry operations, as well as sales yards located within North Carolina. Safety achievements ranged from two to 25 consecutive years of safe work environments. The top award was presented to Vulcan’s Smith Grove Quarry for 25 years of accident-free activity. “A safety award shows employees and the community you are committed to a safe work environment,” Berry says. “A good safety record is something to be proud of, and businesses deserve to be recognized for their efforts.” According to NCDOL, its awards honor outstanding on-the-job safety achievements of each division during 2014. Under program rules, companies must have been free of fatal accidents at the site for which the award is given to be eligible. Next Hillhead may be a record setter
Hillhead 2016 is on pace for a record number of exhibitors and demonstrations, according to organizers who say the show is positioned for a sellout. The show is scheduled for June 28-30, 2016, at Tarmac's Hillhead Quarry near Buxton, England. ‘The rebooking process has been extremely positive and the buoyancy in the market has been reflected in stand reservations for both existing and new exhibitors," says Richard Bradbury, event director. "As a result, there is now very little outdoor space left to offer new exhibitors, and the show is expected to be sold out early in the new year." Keep Reading
Martin Marietta names executive vice president
Martin Marietta Materials Inc. named Roselyn R. Bar executive vice president of the company. Bar joined Martin Marietta in 1994 and had served as the company's senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary since 2005. She was promoted to corporate secretary in 1997 and associate general counsel in 1998. She became deputy general counsel in 2000 and was named vice president and general counsel in 2001. “Roselyn Bar is a trusted counselor and advisor to our company, not just in the area of legal affairs but also in a host of business and governance related areas," says Ward Nye, chairman, president and CEO of Martin Marietta. Negotiators selected to mold passable highway bill
The House and Senate selected members of both parties to serve as negotiators who can eliminate differences that exist in the separate, multi-year highway bills both chambers drafted. Their task is to take elements of both and create a version both chambers can pass, according to The Hill. Both the House and the Senate passed highway bills that guarantee at least three years of highway and transit spending, but only if Congress can come up with a way to pay for an additional three years. According to The Hill, Congress hopes to develop an agreement before a Nov. 20 deadline to renew federal highway spending. The House selected 12 Democrats and 16 Republicans as negotiators, according to the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA). Sandvik dealer adds breaker line to offerings
Sandvik Construction named Crusher Works a new distributor for the Bretec range of breakers throughout Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, north Florida and west Tennessee. According to Sandvik, Crusher Works is an existing Sandvik distributor for drilling, mobile crushing and screening products. Crusher Works is based in Birmingham, Ala. It was formed in 2000. “We are very excited to have Crusher Works join the distribution network of Bretec breakers," says Scott Davison, Sandvik's sales manager for OEM and Bretec breakers in North America. "With its experience in both the mobile crushing and screening and surface drill businesses and a strong customer base in quarries, recycling, and general construction applications, they are a great fit for us." Martin Marietta touts record third-quarter results
Martin Marietta Materials Inc. reports achieving record consolidated net sales of $1.0 billion in the third quarter, as well as an aggregates product line volume increase of 5.4 percent. The company made these announcements upon releasing its third-quarter report. "Our record third-quarter results reflect the company's considerable earnings power resulting from the continued successful execution of our strategic plan," says Ward Nye, chairman, president and CEO of Martin Marietta. "We believe that a construction-centric recovery is underway in our geographic markets, as evidenced by the growing demand for construction materials and favorable pricing that led to consolidated net sales of more than $1 billion – a milestone for our shareholders and employees." According to Martin Marietta, its Southeast group led the increase in aggregates product line volume growth with a 9 percent volume increase of its own. The company says its Mid-America group, which includes North and South Carolina, generated a 5 percent increase in aggregates volume growth. Quarterly revenues, profit up at Vulcan
Vulcan Materials Co. released its third-quarter results, reporting both revenue and gross profit increases over the prior year. According to Vulcan, third-quarter revenues increased 19 percent to $1.038 billion and gross profit increased 39 percent from the prior year to $291 million. Gross profit and gross profit margins improved in the company's aggregates, asphalt and concrete segments. In the aggregates segment, Vulcan says the company delivered its ninth straight quarter of year-over-year improvements in both shipments and per-ton margins. Same-store aggregates shipments rose 7 percent, and same-store freight-adjusted aggregates pricing increased 8 percent from the prior year. "The ongoing, gradual recovery in construction activity and demand for our products continued in the third quarter," says Tom Hill, Vulcan's president and CEO. Mobile crushers debut at Rubble Master event
Rubble Master recently presented a number of new technical developments to customers and sales partners at RM Xperience Days in Linz, Austria. The RM 90GO!, RM 70GO! 2.0 and the new swiveling re-feeding belts with mesh deck screen were shown in action in the course of a product demo. According to Rubble Master, it is also launching a hybrid option for its crushers under the name of RM TWO GO!.
