She completed her undergraduate degree at Ohio University where she received a Bachelor of Science in magazine journalism from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. FMI survey refutes Millennial work ethic myths

FMI Corp. released its report, “Millennials in Construction: Learning to Engage a New Workforce,” which reveals findings based on a combination of survey responses and interviews from almost 400 individuals who work in the construction industry nationwide. Of the 400 individuals surveyed, half of the participants represent Millennials (people born between 1980 and 2000). Overall, the survey acknowledges that millennials tend to have strong work ethics. “While the stigma exists that Millennials are entitled, disloyal and lazy, it appears that this is not true,” says Sabine Hoover, FMI’s content director. Key highlights from the survey include: An inspiring and well-communicated vision is critical to engaging Millennials long term. Seventy-four percent of survey respondents expect to remain with their company for more than five years. Ninety-six percent of respondents are willing to work beyond what is required of them to help their business succeed. Liebherr introduces new equipment at Quarry Days

Liebherr recently hosted its Quarry Days in Saint-Nabor, France, which drew in more than 1,000 attendees. According to the company, Liebherr experts demonstrated the use of quarrying equipment at various stations oriented toward the different production processes in a quarry, including material removal, quarrying, transportation, stone crushing and service. At the event, the company showcased some of its new equipment, including the R 956 crawler excavator, PR 726 crawler tractor, and L 566 XPower and L 586 XPower wheel loaders. The R 956 was presented for the first time at Quarry Days with its new diesel engine, which meets Tier 4 emissions standards. The crawler excavator has a robust uppercarriage, a more resilient undercarriage and a new cab, reports Liebherr. The PR 726, which debuted in September, features a 4-cylinder Liebherr diesel engine and meets Tier 4 standards. BASF to reorganize four of its businesses

BASF plans to reorganize its paper, water, oilfield and mining businesses within its performance chemicals division to foster customer and industry focus, while also increasing competitiveness. BASF will combine its Water Solutions and Paper Chemicals businesses to form a new global business unit called Paper and Water Chemicals. According to BASF, merging the two businesses will enable efficiency gains and create additional market opportunities. The company will create Oilfield and Mining Solutions as another global business unit. The company says teams in this unit will increase effectiveness and focus on developing and commercializing innovative and sustainable products to support global customers. “The further development of our organization will strengthen customer focus,” says Dr. Christian Fischer, president of the Performance Chemicals division. “The stepwise expansion of our polymer production network and investments in bio-acrylamide raw materials as well as the launch of innovative products will accelerate profitable growth.” Both business units will be headquartered in Ludwigshafen, Germany, and the changes will be made effective Jan. 1. Hyundai appoints Midwest district sales manager

Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas named Edward Harseim as its Midwest district sales manager. Harseim will support Hyundai dealers throughout a 14-state territory ranging from North Dakota to Tennessee. Harseim has 15 years of sales and support experience in the heavy equipment industry. Before joining Hyundai, he served in a variety of positions with several equipment manufacturers. “Ed joins us with deep knowledge and experience in the construction equipment business, especially as it relates to helping equipment dealers serve their customers,” says M.S. Kaman to acquire Calkins Fluid Power

Kaman Corp., headquartered in Bloomfield, Conn., signed an agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of Calkins Fluid Power. Terms of the sale were not disclosed. Calkins, founded in the 1920s and headquartered in Spokane, Wash., is an authorized distributor of Parker’s mobile and industrial hydraulics, filtration and pneumatics products. The company also designs and integrates hydraulic power units and systems. Serving customers in Washington, Montana and Idaho, Calkins will become a part of Kaman’s fluid power platform. “The acquisition of Calkins represents a continuation of our strategy to build a strong fluid power position and further supports our strategic relationship and authorizations with our primary supplier, Parker Hannifin,” says Tribby Warfield, senior vice president and general manager of Kaman. “We see significant growth opportunities and synergies with Calkins and our previously announced acquisitions in the Pacific Northwest of Northwest Hose & Fittings and Western Fluid Components.” Kaman distributes industrial parts and operates more than 200 customer service centers and five distribution centers across North America. Feds push to boost funding for infrastructure projects

As the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate prepare to negotiate a new highway bill, Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx is pushing lawmakers to boost the funding for infrastructure projects, reports The Hill. Lawmakers are going to conference soon over a multiyear highway-funding bill after the House passed a $325 billion, six-year highway bill in a 363-64 vote. The Senate also passed a six-year highway bill that contains three years of guaranteed funding. Both entities must beat a Nov. 20 deadline for renewing federal infrastructure funding. After the House vote on Thursday, Foxx encouraged lawmakers they should try to find the money for the additional three years of transportation funding and increase the amount of money given to each state for construction projects each year, according to The Hill. The bill passed by the House calls for spending $261 billion on highways and $55 billion on transit over six years.
