Williford dubbed chairman of NSSGA board of directors
Hal Williford, president and CEO of Memphis Stone & Gravel Co., was named chairman of the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association’s (NSSGA) board of directors, succeeding Charles Luck IV. “Hal has been a true leader of the aggregates industry and really understands the needs of our members, large and small,” says Mike Johnson, NSSGA president and CEO. “It has been a pleasure to work with Charlie, who brought valued-based leadership to our association. A multi-year highway funding bill became law, and our Annual Convention and AGG1 Academy & Expo broke attendance records. We are excited to build on those successes in the year ahead with Hal at the helm.” Williford has served as president of Memphis Stone since 2003. He began his career as a quality control technician at Lehman-Roberts Company in 1985 and worked up to manager of materials and quality control by 1990. Sandvik Mining, Schenck Process enter partnership
Sandvik Mining and Schenck Process signed a global partnership agreement, which will provide increased crushing circuit productivity for Schenck Process double- and single-deck banana screens and Sandvik cone crushers. According to the companies, this cooperation will provide them with an in-depth understanding of mining customers’ equipment, in addition to knowledge that will enable them to raise their crushing plant performance. “In terms of replacements, Sandvik’s high-productivity cone crushers and Schenck Process’ high-capacity banana screens have compact footprints, thus allowing for cost effective upgrades using existing infrastructure,” says Jonas Olsson, vice president of crushing and screening for Sandvik Mining. “Twenty to 30 percent productivity increases can be achieved within the existing infrastructure.” Mary Verschuer, president of minerals and metals for Schenck Process, believes this partnership will benefit both companies and their customers. “This partnership agreement allows our customers to raise their overall crushing and screening plant productivity by focusing on process efficiency in its entirety, as opposed to individual pieces of equipment," she says. NSSGA honors industry advocates with Grassroots Awards
The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) recognized a number of industry aggregates advocates for their efforts to educate lawmakers on the value of the industry and legislation that can benefit operations around the country. NSSGA honored Ben Brock of Astec Industries with its 2016 Grassroots CEO of the Year award. According to NSSGA, Brock seized every opportunity to advance NSSGA’s legislative priorities throughout 2015. He also met with members of Congress and their staffs to advocate on behalf of the aggregates industry. NSSGA recognized Astec Industries and Oldcastle Materials with Grassroots Initiative of the Year awards for their legislative campaigns in 2015. Astec Industries received the award for its “Don’t Let America Dead End” campaign. The goal of this campaign was to urge members of Congress to pass a multi-year highway bill by sending out action kits, lapel stickers and launching an accompanying website. Trimble releases updated monitoring software
Trimble released the latest version of its Trimble 4D Control monitoring software, version 4.5, that supports the IBIS-FM radar device, which is manufactured by the GeoRadar Division of Ingegneria Dei Sistemi. According to the company, the IBIS-FM radar device continuously scans in all weather conditions and detects movements with sub-millimeter accuracy for distances up to almost 2.5 miles. The addition of the IBIS-FM support in Trimble 4D Control software 4.5 can trigger early warning detection of slope instability to improve worker safety, the company adds. “With the integrated support for the IBIS-FM radar device, we continue to demonstrate our commitment to improving safety for mining personnel,” says Shawn Hilliard, business area director of Trimble’s Monitoring Solution. “As we continue to add support for third-party sensors to our monitoring solutions, we are enabling our customers to better detect, automate and analyze information with a variety of tools to improve the safety and management of monitoring operations.” The opportunities in radar technology play a significant role in effective project safety management in… Keep Reading
