NRMCA launches concrete construction promo campaign
The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) launched “Build with Strength,” a multimillion-dollar industry campaign to better educate the design/build and code communities about the benefits of concrete construction in the low- to mid-rise sector. According to the association, the program is based off of a significant research investment made to better understand the motivations behind the use of certain construction materials. Results showed that a majority of the design/build community favored concrete construction; however, results also showed that certain misconceptions and environmental impact led decision makers to choose other building materials, such as wood. “All of us in the concrete industry know we offer a superior construction product that delivers safety, durability and strength to designers, architects, builders, investors and consumers,” says NRMCA President Robert Garbini. “What this campaign is about is spreading that message to the audiences that are either unaware of or reluctant to embrace concrete as the standard bearer of durability.” The campaign will include a website, video content, a multi-city media tour, rapid response capabilities,… Keep Reading
MSHA: 2015 safest year in mining history
Last year was the safest year in mining history based on the number of fatalities and injury rates per hours of miners’ exposure, according to data released by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA). MSHA released its 2015 data on the “Mine Safety and Health at a Glance” page at msha.gov. The page of key statistics, which includes information on inspections, violations and number of mines and miners, is updated annually. In 2015, 28 miners died in mining accidents, which is down from 45 deaths in 2014. Additionally, the fatal injury rate was the lowest in mining history, MSHA adds. In the metal and nonmetal mining industry, both the number of fatalities and the fatal injury rate were almost cut in half from the 2014 figures. The all-injury rate also dropped to a new low in 2015 at 2.28, MSHA reports. Because the number of miners and mining operations was down in 2015, MSHA conducted fewer inspections. In 2015, there was an 11 percent reduction… Keep Reading
