The Indianapolis City Market first opened in 1886 and today still operates with more than 30 local artisan booths of food, fresh produce and retail.

The market is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m.–9 p.m., though some merchant hours may vary.
The Indianapolis City Market currently stands on the National Register of Historic Places and offers tours of the Romanesque underground catacombs. The Market and Indiana Landmarks offer guided descents into the City Market catacombs, a long hidden ruin beneath City Market’s Whistler Plaza.
The catacombs are the remains of Tomlinson Hall, an imposing building whose main hall seated 3,500 people. After Tomlinson Hall burned in January 1958, the catacombs is what remains from the blaze.
