Summit Materials reconfigured and expanded Davenport’s Green America Recycling operations.
Summit installed FLSmidth’s FuelFlex Pyrolyzer system, which enhances the use of nonhazardous alternative fuels at its cement plant in Davenport, Iowa. The $38 million investment expands Summit’s Green America Recycling operation, enabling the plant to replace about 55 percent of its fossil fuel usage with nonhazardous waste, according to the company.

“We estimate this project will cut our coal and petcoke consumption by over 50,000 tons annually while delivering significant savings annually,” Noonan adds. “This investment clearly demonstrates that we are building a cement business capable of meeting the opportunities and challenges of a dynamic marketplace.”
David Loomes, executive vice president and president of Summit’s cement segment, echoes Noonan’s sentiments regarding FuelFlex.
