
Limestone shipments on the Great Lakes totaled 2.3 million net tons in April, an increase of 19.9 percent versus a year ago.
According to the Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA), April’s shipments were above the month’s five-year average by 9.6 percent.
LCA says shipments at U.S. ports in April totaled 1.9 million tons, an increase of 15.5 percent. Shipments from Canadian quarries in April totaled 459,393 for an increase of 42.2 percent.
On the year, the Great Lakes limestone trade is up 26.6 percent and stands at 2.6 million tons. Shipments from U.S. ports are up 22.8 percent from the previous year, while shipments from Canadian ports are up 46.7 percent.
