Holcim US acquired the sand and aggregate operations of Pioneer Landscape Centers, strengthening its presence in the Mountain region.
Thirteen quarries in Colorado and Arizona are included in the deal, Holcim says, with potential reserves for several decades.
“This acquisition brings about significant synergies to address supply and distribution segments of our business,” says Toufic Tabbara, region head of North America at Holcim US, whose company expects impacts from the deal to be had in the Denver, Colorado Springs and Phoenix markets. “Given the strong growth expected in this market, we’re thrilled to bring further operational longevity and value to our team. We look forward to welcoming Pioneer’s quarry team into the Holcim family.”
According to Holcim, Pioneer will continue to operate as a distributor of bulk landscape and hardscape materials in the West. Pioneer has 34 retail distribution centers serving commercial, wholesale and residential customers.
The acquisition of Pioneer’s sand and gravel operations comes on the heels of a December 2022 deal in which Holcim acquired an aggregate operation in Colorado from J-2 Contracting Co. Chance Allen, head of the Mountain region at Holcim, reflected on this deal.
“The addition of this operation ensures we will continue to provide remarkable products, spanning dozens of applications, ranging from ready-mixed and precast concrete, asphalt and base material for street and road construction for years to come across the region,” Allen says. “We welcome several full-time employees into Holcim with this transaction who will help us continue to build our footprint in the rapidly growing Colorado construction market.”
